My name is Hanno Strydom. I am an Irish-born, Eastman School of Music educated cellist, by training. I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where for ten years (2008–2018) I served on the cello faculty of the nation’s largest community music school.
In 2017 my wife and I adopted a four-year-old boy from Korea, a decision whose life-altering consequences I documented in my first Deliberative Dad blog post. In 2020 we doubled down with a second adoption, a two-year-old boy, also from Korea.
I am now stay-at-home dad, all-in for my boys, doer of all things to facilitate my wife’s demanding legal career, maintainer of order and sanity at home, investor, rental property manager, hunter, angler, and interdisciplinary synthesizer of ideas, ranging freely through philosophy, epistemology, meaning, ontology, mythology, religion, symbolism, psychology, economics, global macro, monetary systems, Bitcoin, and beyond.
This blog is my space to explore and share my wide ranging interests and influences.
Writing, I have found, is an uncompromising crucible for clarity of thought.
