My name is Hanno Strydom. I am an Irish-born, Eastman School of Music educated cellist, by training. I live in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where for ten years (2008–2018) I served on the cello faculty of the nation’s largest community music school.
In 2017 my wife and I adopted a four-year-old boy from Korea, a decision whose life-altering consequences I documented in my first Deliberative Dad blog post. In 2020 we doubled down with a second adoption, a two-year-old boy, also from Korea. I am now stay-at-home dad, all-in for my boys, doer of all things to facilitate my wife’s career as a partner in “big law”, maintainer of order and sanity at home, and manager of our rental property.
This blog is my space to explore and synthesize my wide ranging interests and influences.
So, this will be my thinking place, because writing, I have found, is an uncompromising crucible for clarity of thought.
